FAQ's

Please reach us at info@DMC-hypnotherapy.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question. I will always be there to help you in the best way possible!

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention that can facilitate therapeutic change. At DMC Hypnotherapy, I harness this powerful tool to help you manage stress and anxiety, improve habits, and achieve personal growth.

Hypnosis is a powerful technique that allows you to tap into your subconscious mind. As a professional hypnotherapist, I guide you through this process to help you overcome obstacles and embrace positive change. I believe that most clients already have the answers to their problems, and it is my job to unlock this and to support their belief that they can change and improve. This really only works when the therapist and client have a good relationship. I believe it is important to build that trust early on so that we can work together on your goals.

Hypnotherapy is backed by science and has been proven to be effective for a wider variety of conditions and situations. I combine research with the latest techniques and a person-centred approach to help you achieve your goals. Hypnotherapy is becoming increasingly recognised as an effective treatment, not just as an alternative, but alongside traditional medical or surgical options. As science increasingly recognises the importance of the mind-body connection and how it is a critical component of the cause of many common ailments or diseases, hypnotherapy is becoming a more mainstream, effective intervention, gaining support from the healthcare community. Rather than being the last resort, it will become a go-to, highly sought-after technique.

The range of issues that can be helped using hypnosis is limitless. Anything that changes your thoughts, improves the mind-body connection or boosts creativity or right-brained thinking can be helped. These include anxiety, panic, phobias, depression, insomnia, trauma, neurodiversity, pain, IBS, weight management, smoking, addictions, all inflammatory conditions, public speaking, performance anxiety, procrastination, organisation, work/ study and many more.

In professionally trained hands, delivered sensitively for your situation, hypnosis is perfectly safe. At your initial appointment, I will take a detailed history and answer any of your questions or concerns before starting treatment. We will sign a client agreement which covers how we will work together. You will be fully in control at every stage of our journey together. I cannot do anything to you against your will, and we will fully discuss and agree to your plan ahead of time.

At our initial appointment, we will spend most of the time taking a full history, including medical, medicines, mental health and discussing the details of the main issue you wish to address. Your goals of treatment and in life will be important, as well as some of your history growing up and school, in some cases. I aim to give you at least one technique to take away on day 1, so you have something to practice until our 1st therapy session. We will agree on a treatment plan and sign an agreement.

I tend to meet 1-2 weekly for between 3-6 sessions in most cases. You can, of course, keep coming for longer if you wish, but this is less likely.

I will usually give you something to practice 1-2 times daily between each appointment and discuss your progress at your next visit. The treatment works best if you undertake daily tasks yourself to embed and strengthen the work we do in session.

After your initial appointment, at your first therapy session, I will guide you into a profound state of relaxation. This is similar to how you feel just before falling asleep or just after waking up. It is also likened to daydreaming or zoning out when driving a car (or staring out a train or bus window). This is a perfectly natural state that we all enter every day. Once in trance, I will provide you with suggestions, metaphors or stories that are aimed to help you. I will provide you with tools that you can use at home to help you day to day between sessions.

Subsequent sessions' suggestions may be focused on boosting your self-confidence, self-belief in your ability to change, dialling down anxiety or visualising a positive future being the way you desire - such as being a calmer, healthier, happier, slimmer / fitter, or a more productive or creative version of yourself.

I am excited to help people deal with the root cause of their issues, and I look forward to helping you be your very best self.

Entering trance is scary for some people, especially if a person has suffered trauma in the past. There may be a fear of loss of control or something being done to you against your will. I want to reassure people that you are not unconscious. Often, you don't remember what was said, but this is perfectly normal and usually a good sign. The feeling is very like just before you fall asleep, but not fully asleep or being unconscious.

Please know that you can stop the trance at any time you wish, and you are free to move around, get up or break trance at any point.

I can not do anything against your will, even if I do suggest something you don't like during trance.

We can do a very quick, mild demonstration at the first appointment, which helps to experience a mild trance state and return.

Sessions can also be recorded if this reassures a client about what occurred during the session, or you can bring another person with you.

Many people think they cannot be hypnotised or have tried it in the past and felt it had not worked. In theory, approximately 10% of people are either very sensitive or resistant to hypnosis. However, the other school of thought is that you just haven't tried the right type of induction technique yet or met the right therapist.

NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It is a set of practical tools that helps us understand how our thoughts, language and behaviours are connected, and how they shape the way we experience life.

In simple terms, NLP can help you change the way you think, respond and feel in everyday situations. I often blend NLP techniques into sessions to support deeper, lasting change. It works especially well alongside hypnotherapy because it gives you practical ways to reframe negative thoughts, let go of old patterns and start responding more helpfully.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, confidence, fear, or just feel stuck, NLP can offer simple but powerful shifts that often lead to big changes over time. It is gentle, respectful and entirely based around your needs. Many clients find the NLP tools I teach become lifelong resources they use well beyond our sessions.
